Back to Asia Pacific Peace Operations Capacity Building
Enhancing Peacekeeping Capacity Seminar
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
September 11 - 15, 2006
The seminar is part of the Asia Pacific Enhanced Peacekeeping Capacity Building Program. Co-hosts are COE, USPACOM, UNDPKO and the Malaysian Armed Forces. COE normally conducts 4-6 such seminars each year throughout the Asia-Pacific Region; however, this year there will be only one.
The Program leverages UN training guidelines and multi-national capacity in the AsiaPacific region to enhance peacekeeping capacity. This seminar will examine the training materials currently available along with other tools to improve peacekeeping capability. It will also address how best to utilize these tools.
COE brings in subject matter experts (SMEs), generally senior military and humanitarian leaders to present the seminar. We also bring in a robust staff to administer and conduct the seminar in order to minimize impact on the host nation and the DAO/ODC. The SMEs will explain to seminar participants the peacekeeping enhancing tools that have already been developed; tools that are in the pipeline; and how to acquire all these tools and utilize them to train the policy makers, planners, program managers, and trainers in their respective countries to build their own peacekeeping capabilities.
