Asia Pacific Peace Operations Capacity Building Seminar Meeting of Regional Experts
Honolulu, Hawaii 30 August - 3 September, 2004
Building on the peace operations capacity building seminars and seminar-games conducted by COE, provide an assessment of emerging peace operations issues in PACOM AOR and potential engagement strategy for peace operations.
Objectives are: Greater potential for the Asia Pacific region to offer leadership and support to complex contingencies and peace operations; Enhanced regional cooperation in peace operations; Greater awareness and understanding of complex contingencies; particularly peace operations and the role of regional organizations in their resolution; Improved regional readiness and competence to respond to emerging complex contingencies/peace operations; More consistent understanding of planning processes in complex contingencies, peace operation concepts, principles and procedures, including working with multiple civilian and non-governmental agencies; Better understanding of international and coalition response to complex contingencies; Enhanced understanding of operations within multinational, multidimensional UN or coalition deployed forces; Enhanced participation in exercises such as MPAT/TEAM CHALLENGE and ultimately, real contingencies; Greater willingness of ARF, the Asia Pacific region and participants to become involved in regional security issues.
