Conferences/Workshops
COE sponsors and participates in various conferences and workshops
that bring together the subject-matter experts in specific sectors
of humanitarian assistance. The goal of these events is to further
the ability of the humanitarian community to respond to and/or manage
disasters. For example, protocols, checklists, guidelines, working
solutions, are some of the products developed in these events. Conference
and workshop participants include government, non-government, United
Nations, military, and other civilian personnel that participate
in disaster assistance.

The Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and High-Yield
Explosives workshop titled, 'Traditional Responders: Non-Traditional
Roles' is co-sponsored by COE, the US Agency for International Development/Office
of Foreign Disaster Assistance, InterAction, and the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention. The purpose of the workshop is to
heighten the awareness of senior leadership from non-governmental
organizations of the issues, hazards and existing mechanisms associated
with a response to a CBRNE event - with a view to laying the foundation
for improving a coordinated inter-agency and inter-organizational
response in a contaminated environment.
