17 - 21 June, sponsored by US Pacific Command. It is the
second event in the Asia Pacific Peace Operations Capacity

COE
staff contribute to the execution of humanitarian role-play
in Exercise PKO North in El Salvador 17 - 29 June support
of US Southern Command. The peace operations scenario involves
the forces of 11 countries, UN personnel and humanitarian
experts and role players.

The
Center participates in US Pacific Command SAGIP Exercise,
held in conjunction with the Army of the Philippines in
Manila 5-20 June. The scenario for SAGIP focuses on humanitarian
assistance and disaster management issues.

An
EIPC "Planning Peace Operations" Course
is taught in Monterey, California 14 - 26 July. The Center
staff supports this staff-level event with curriculum and
instructors.

The
seventh HELP course is held in at the East West Center in
Honolulu 16 July - 3 August. The purpose of the Health Emergencies
in Large Populations (HELP I) and Health, Ethics, Law and
Policy (HELP II) courses is to develop a common approach
to improve program coordination between civilian and military
responders in complex emergencies. These two consecutive
courses are developed by the International Committee of
the Red Cross and executed by the Center of Excellence.

The
Asia Pacific Regional Peace Operations Seminar on Lessons
Learned in East Timor takes place 26-29 August in a location
to be announced. This is the third event in the Asia Pacific
Peace Operations Capacity Building Program in 2002.

Center
staff contribute to the execution of the humanitarian and
consequence management components of Exercise Tempest Express
02-3 in support of the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in
Okinawa, Japan 10-15 September.

The
All Asia Peace Operations Symposium takes place in Honolulu
16-19 September in a location to be announced. This is the
fourth event in the Asia Pacific Peace Operations Capacity
Building Program in 2002.

The
Center provides UN peace operations lane-training support
during a US Army Pacific's Multi-Platoon Training Event
being held in Bangladesh 8-27 September. This MPTE follows
on the first successful event held in Nepal in January 2000.
