Appendix C: Asia Pacific Peace Operations Capacity Building Program Survey Summary

In order to determine what areas would be valuable as the Center develops future events, a survey was conducted at the conclusion of each of four regional seminars. Questions focused on issues that might assist the development of peace operations capacity in the Asia Pacific region. Responses were received from 28 Nations and over 220 individuals.

Items not assigned percentages were nevertheless felt to be important by at least 25 individual respondents.

1. At what level should future seminars, workshops, games and exercises attempt to focus?

Pri 1- Operational Level Military, Police and Humanitarian (85 %)

Pri 2 - Strategic Level Military, Police and Humanitarian

Pri 3 - Strategic Political Level

Pri 4 - Tactical Level Military, Police and Humanitarian

2. What activities would prove valuable over the next few years to improve regional capacity further?

Pri 4 - Lessons Learned seminars/workshops

3. Many nations are working to establish Peace Operations Training centers. What external assistance would prove most beneficial?

7. Key statements made during the seminar games:

Leadership training and education is probably the key aspect to developing a peace operations capacity.
Integrated training of peace operations components is most effective and valuable.
Leadership must include policy staffs from the national political, military, police and humanitarian sectors.
Effective peace operations coalitions are best built from nations that have exercised together and have familiarity with each others standards and doctrine.
