Survey Results

In addition to producing final conclusions and recommendations, participants completed a survey on what level future events should be held, the effectiveness of peace operations as an engagement tool, the importance of UN sponsorship, and requested to suggest improvements they would like to see in Asia Pacific Area Network website.

As to the level of future seminars, workshops and games, 80% of respondents felt highest priority should be given to the integrated operational level. Assigned to second priority was the integrated strategic level, and third and last priority was tied between the strategic political and integrated tactical levels.

Fifty-percent of respondents consider peace operations to be essential as an engagement tool for countries in the Asia Pacific Region, while 40% felt it is extremely valuable. The remaining 10% felt it was either minimally useful, not useful or they did not respond to the question.

Forty-eight percent of responders felt that United Nations sponsorship in the Asia Pacific Region to be essential while another 48 % considered it extremely valuable.

Many survey responders commented that the APAN website - http://www.apan-info.net - has tremendous potential to support peace operations centers and training. When asked to provide suggestions for improvement, the following comments were noted[3]:

  1. Simplify the sign-in process
  2. Improve access to the website by adjusting the speed of downloads. Make them text only, for example.
  3. Increase the download speed of Power Point slides
  4. Build a peace operations center network
  5. Provide automatic email upgrades on new information
  6. Introduce a quick search feature
  7. Add a ÒResponse to QuestionsÓ section

[3] Since the publication of this report, APAN has revised its website, and has incorporated some of these recommendations.
